Smallholder farmers face challenges in getting reliable and timely access to good quality seeds at the right price.

This pilot project aims to support the development of a market-oriented, pluralistic, vibrant and dynamic seed sector in Africa. It addresses four themes:

• Promoting entrepreneurship in the seed value chain
• Access to varieties in the public domain
• Matching global commitments with national realities
• Supporting African Union programmes and seed sector development
