UK Government accused of fuelling a corporate scramble for Africa
The World Development Movement has launched a campaign in criticism of The New Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition that was set up by G8 countries in 2012. The campaign is largely aimed at the UK’s role and claims that the programme will exacerbate poverty and inequality by prioritising multinational farms over African farmers.

Brazilian Trilateral Cooperation in Mozambique
Natalia Fingermann has just published her dissertation looking at: ‘The Brazilian Trilateral Cooperation in Mozambique – A comparative case study: ProSAVANA and ProALIMENTOS’. This looks at the motivations and practices of Brazilian trilateral cooperation agents through her two case studies related to agricultural cooperation. The paper is available to download. (PDF link)

China-UK Cooperation on African Trade and Investment
Jing Gu has embarked on a research project funded by DFID, to look at shifting trade and investment patterns between China and the UK in Africa. Case study countries will include Kenya and South Africa and there will be a focus on impacts on poverty. The team will be made up of 19 researchers, including collaborations with CAITEC, a think tank affiliated with the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.

A conference in Accra, Ghana on 15-17 January 2015 will have as its title “Asian Studies in Africa: the Challenges and Prospects of a New Axis of Intellectual Interaction”.

New research programme on global governance of development cooperation
The Policy Research Centre for Development Cooperation in Belgium has just published three papers as part of its research programme running from 2012-2015.
