Updated figures on the number of people worldwide who suffer chronic hunger is released at a press conference at FAO’s headquarters in Rome on Tuesday, 14 September 2010 at 13.30h.
FAO Director-General Jacques Diouf will participate, along with World Food Programme (WFP) Executive Director Josette Sheeran and Ms Yukiko Omura, Vice President, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
The release of the numbers comes in advance of the UN Millennium Development Goal Summit in New York (20-22 September) and the publication of FAO’s annual flagship report, “The State of World Food Insecurity” (SOFI).
The full SOFI report, jointly published with WFP, includes a special section focusing on hunger in countries experiencing protracted crises and will be published in October.
